Legends Deer Feeds –
Starter Formula is perfect for the deer manager just beginning a supplemental feeding
program or anyone interested in feeding and attracting deer. Our Starter Formula is specifically designed to
train deer that have never been exposed to pelleted protein feed, while also acting as an
attractant. With the Legends Deer Feeds-Starter
Formula you get the best of both worlds, you increase the nutritional health of
your deer herd while still having the enjoyment of attracting deer to your feed stations.
The Starter Formula should be
fed until the deer manager is certain deer are eating feed on a consistent basis. The time period it takes for deer to become
trained onto protein feed varies greatly and entails several factors. It may take deer anywhere from 1 week to 6 months
to become trained to pelleted feed. The
reasons for such variation primarily are due to deer densities and habitat quality. The training process will be expedited if you are
feeding an area with high deer densities and poor habitat.
Conversely, if you are feeding an area with low deer densities and excellent
habitat it will naturally take deer longer to become dependent on the protein pellets, but
they will given time. Obviously, there are a
thousand different scenarios in between the above two examples, your timing and results
will vary, but rest assured deer eventually will become reliant upon protein pellets. Once deer have been trained with the Starter
Formula it is then time to take the next step with one of the other Legends Deer Feeds
Formulas. We recommend all deer on supplemental feed have roughage, preferably roughage
with low protein content, and clean fresh water available at all times.

LEGENDS DEER FEEDS—RANCH FORMULA
 Legends Deer Feeds – Ranch Formula is designed to
increase the overall nutritional status of deer in an open range or large enclosure
situation. The Ranch Formula is a new
and improved deer feed created by Dr. James Kroll (Dr. Deer) and Skipper Bettis after
years of scientific and field-testing and is the most technologically advanced formula
available today. It is recommended to feed
the Ranch Formula to deer that are accustomed to eating protein pellets or deer
trained to protein pellets by the Legends Deer Feeds – Starter Formula. The Ranch Formula should be fed to deer from late
winter to late fall. This time period
includes the post-rut, antler growing, gestation, fawning, lactation and pre-rut seasons. Each of these phases requires high protein and
corresponds to the increased nutritional demands on a deer.
The post-rut is a critical time period for bucks; some bucks can lose up to
25% of their pre-rut weight. After rebuilding
body reserves and restoring lost weight, bucks will shed their old antlers and begin to
grow a new set of antlers. This is important because only nutrients left over after all
other nutritional needs are met go into antler production.
This time period also includes gestation, fawning and lactation, all of
which are nutritionally costly periods for does. By
supplying a 20% protein pellet during this time period you can be assured each deer has
the ability to thrive during these biologically stressful periods. We recommend all deer
on supplemental feed have roughage, preferably roughage with low protein content, and
clean fresh water available at all times.

Deer Feed – Breeder Formula is formulated specifically for deer in small
enclosures. Deer confined to small enclosures
demand precise nutrient and vitamin concentrations, the Breeder Formula is designed
to deliver. This new and improved formula
from Dr. James Kroll and Skipper Bettis is the result of years of scientific and pen
testing. It is the most scientifically
advanced deer feed on the market today. Penned deer are very sensitive to change in diet;
therefore the Breeder Formula is formulated to feed to deer in small enclosures on
a year around basis. The most common
problem deer breeders encounter is feed that is too “hot” for deer. This problem stems from not enough roughage in a
deer’s diet to allow their rumen to properly digest the protein pellets. Scours and weight loss are common symptoms of a
deer feed being too “hot.” We
recommend all deer in small enclosures have roughage, preferably roughage with low protein
content, and clean fresh water available at all times.
Roughage with high protein content is not necessary because deer are
obtaining all the protein and necessary nutrients they need from the Breeder Formula. Due to the sensitivity of penned deer the Breeder
Formula contains a crucial balance between the crude fiber and protein ratio. By decreasing this ratio the feed becomes more

enables your deer to remain healthy during the autumn rut and low-nutrition winter period. Its high-energy diet maintains or increases body
weights during the winter months, thus decreasing the incidence of post-rut buck
mortality. The Rut Formula’s
high-energy diet stems from an increase in carbohydrates and a decrease in protein. This diet coincides with the physiological needs
of white-tailed deer during the winter months. Increasing
